A family-owned service station, Lees, which is located on a backwoods deserted highway in the North Carolina piedmont. It has existed for decades and has always been where the locals go for their cheap gasoline and more importantly, the best corn this side of the Appalachians . Lees sells some of the finest corn in all of NC, and they should since they grow hundreds of acres of it in fields right behind their store. What is so special about this corn? one might ask. Well, good soil is only part of the equation. It just so turns out that strangers passing through make the perfect fertilizer, which explains the rumored thousands of disappearances over the years. Guests arrive as strangers just passing through whether they be pavement pounding businessmen or simply families on their way to the coast for a nice vacation...at Lees, a stranger is a stranger.
